Quick answer: Open the camera arrow menu, choose Video and Tab, select a browser tab in Chrome's chooser, and wait for the countdown. Use Pause, Resume, and Finish in the recording controller. The completed recording downloads locally without microphone or system audio.
1. Prepare the tab
- Open the page you want to demonstrate.
- Close notifications and hide any private information that should not appear in the recording.
- Activate Web Markups and add any annotations you want visible.
- Open the arrow beside the camera button.
2. Choose Video, format, and area
- Choose Video.
- Select MP4 or WebM. MP4 appears unavailable when the current Chrome configuration cannot record it.
- Choose Tab for the selected browser tab's visible viewport, or Area to focus on a movable region.
- If you choose Area, select Rectangle or the Pro-only Circle shape before continuing.
3. Select a browser tab in Chrome
Chrome opens its native source chooser. Select a browser tab and confirm sharing. Web Markups requests a tab video stream only and rejects a window or entire-screen source. It does not request microphone, tab audio, or system audio.
For Area recording, Chrome's chooser appears first. After the tab is selected, move and resize the bright area and choose Record. The area outside the selected region remains dimmed during recording.
4. Follow the countdown and recording state
- Wait for the three-second countdown.
- Begin the demonstration when the indicator turns red and the elapsed timer starts.
- Use Pause when you need to reset the page or prepare the next state.
- Use Resume to continue the same recording.
- Use Finish when the walkthrough is complete.
Chrome keeps its own capture indicator visible. A paused recording remains an active recording session, so a second recording cannot start until the first one finishes or is canceled.
5. Wait for saving to finish
After Finish, Web Markups finalizes the media and saves the completed MP4 or WebM through Chrome Downloads. Do not close the recorded tab or Chrome while the recording is being finalized. Once saving completes, a new recording can start.
6. Optional private cloud copy
A connected, verified Pro user can select Cloud before starting so the next completed recording saves locally and uploads to private cloud storage. The choice applies once and resets to local-only. Recordings larger than the current cloud upload limit can still be valid local recordings but cannot be uploaded.
Recording troubleshooting
Chrome selected a window or screen
Choose a browser tab instead. Web Markups rejects window and entire-screen sources.
MP4 is unavailable
Select WebM, or update Chrome and try again. Format availability depends on the browser's current media support.
The recording ended unexpectedly
Closing the source tab, stopping Chrome's share, revoking permission, or reaching a safety limit can end the session. Confirm the downloaded file plays before deleting the original page state.
I cannot start a second recording
Finish or cancel the active session and wait until saving completes. A paused or finalizing recording still owns the single recording session.
Before sharing the result
- Play the saved file from beginning to end.
- Confirm the duration includes the expected pause and resume sequence.
- Check that private notifications, account details, and unrelated browser content are absent.
- Remember that Web Markups records no audio; add written context separately when needed.
