Step-by-step screenshot guide

How to capture a webpage screenshot with Web Markups.

Capture the visible browser tab with one click, or choose a movable selected area when only part of the page matters. The result saves as a local PNG through Chrome Downloads.

Quick answer: Activate Web Markups and click the camera button to capture the visible tab. For a selected area, open the arrow beside the camera, choose Photo and Area, position the frame, then choose Capture.

1. Prepare the page

  1. Open the webpage and activate Web Markups.
  2. Add any arrows, lines, channels, or text notes you want included.
  3. Close open menus and remove selection handles by clicking an empty area if you want a cleaner result.
  4. Review the page for private information before capturing it.

2. Capture the visible tab

  1. Click the main camera button once.
  2. Keep the tab active until capture finishes. Changing tabs cancels the operation.
  3. Wait for the lower-corner thumbnail and download confirmation.
  4. Open Chrome Downloads if you want to show the saved file.

The image contains the visible webpage viewport, annotations, and active Web Markups toolbar. It does not include Chrome tabs, the address bar, the desktop, or content below the current viewport.

3. Capture a selected area

  1. Open the arrow menu beside the camera.
  2. Choose Photo.
  3. Choose Area. Rectangle is available to Free and Pro users; Circle requires a server-confirmed Pro account.
  4. Move and resize the selection frame around the content you need.
  5. Choose Capture. Press Escape or choose Cancel if you do not want to save it.

The selection border, resize handles, instructions, and confirmation buttons are removed before the pixels are saved.

4. Understand the saved result

Saves a local PNG with a visible webmarkups.com watermark.

Pro screenshot

A server-confirmed Pro account receives watermark-free screenshots and can use Circle area capture.

Local destination

Chrome Downloads remains the default. The location arrow opens Chrome's Downloads settings; it does not take a screenshot.

5. Save one screenshot to private cloud storage

  1. Connect the extension to a verified Free or Pro account.
  2. Open the capture arrow menu.
  3. Select Cloud so the destination reads Downloads + Cloud.
  4. Take the screenshot.

Cloud is a one-capture choice and returns to local-only afterward. Connecting an account does not automatically upload screenshots, recordings, or annotations. The local download is still created.

Screenshot troubleshooting

The screenshot was canceled

Keep the original tab active until the capture completes. Chrome may also block capture on protected browser pages.

The saved image has a watermark

Watermarks are expected for Free, signed-out, or entitlement-unavailable screenshots. Reconnect the Pro account and confirm its current plan before retrying.

I need the full scrolling page

Web Markups currently captures the visible viewport or a selected area. It does not claim scrolling full-page capture.

I cannot find the file

Open Chrome Downloads and review Chrome's configured download location. Web Markups does not read or store the absolute local folder path.
